Dried Flowers
Digital Mp3 PlayerI first bought a digital MP3 player several years ago when the devices were still pretty new ..... We are approaching the fall decorating season. I wanted to have some new ideas this year for decorating both inside and outside our home. My sister and I made a trip to the farmers market to pick up some pumpkins and gourds. It was a great growing season for pumpkins in our area. We both picked out several pumpkins as well as gourds to use in the yard and in the house. One of the stands had a large variety of dried flowers for sale. I decided that this would be a great new addition to my fall decorations. I bought several bunches of the dried flowers including several colors of straw flowers, hydrangeas, and a small purple flower that looked like clover. One of the other vendors had Chinese lanterns and bittersweet. I also bought some grapevines. One length of vine had been twisted and the other was formed into a wreath.
I decided to work with the dried flowers in my potting shed because they can get quite messy. I bought a length of twinkle lights that were on a brown cord. I wrapped the cord around the twisted piece of grape vine. Next I wrapped the bittersweet around the cord and vine. I wired clusters of the dried flowers together and placed them at intervals along the vine. This made a beautiful length of lit garland. I arranged this on our mantel along with orange, cranberry and tan candles. The garland and candles look nice during the day and in the evening with the twinkle lights lit it is very beautiful. It gives the living room a warm and cozy glow.
I took the remainder of the dried flowers and placed them in a brown vase. The straw flowers needed to be wound around wire stems to make them sturdy enough to stand by themselves. I sprayed the hydrangeas with super hold hair spray. This keeps them from dropping their flowers. I put the vase on the sofa table so that it would not have to be moved as often as it would on the dining table. It is best to have the least amount of movement as possible for the dried flowers so they do not shed.

I had enough hydrangeas and straw flowers left to place them on the grapevine wreath. The small purple dried flowers were sturdy enough to allow me to string them together like a lei. I wrapped the flower chain around the grapevine and wired the remainder of the other dried flowers in the bottom, along with a golden colored ribbon. I placed the wreath on the back door where it is protected from the elements by an overhang.
My new fall decorations look great and were not very expensive. If they are stored properly the dried flowers can be reused next year.
